Action 1: - Term 2 Week 4 – 6 - Setting up for success: i. Begin Research: a) Need to find out more about engaged inquiry learning
b) Strategies which facilitate this ii. Consider questions in NEMP Surveys to inform data gathering process. Could also incorporate
aspects of the bulleted points in 2 above, formulating these into a question format.
Consider asking students about not only their enjoyment, practices and capabilities in inquiry but what they would like to inquire into, to learn, and what it is that interests them. iii. Consider format for to use in collecting student data. Could use google forms and prepare an
Online survey, or the easispeak, flip video camera etc to gather info. iv. Prepare questions and format for collection which can be re-applied at baseline collection stage, mid-way and at end of action inquiry. v. Begin Reflective Practices: Record/Gather teacher perspective (self) of current situation.
Devise a list questions to ask of students.
Term 2 Week 6 to end of Term 2 Action 2: - Baseline Data Gathering i. Begin data gathering process.
ii. Take photos of group member at work.
iii. Record comments made
iv. Interview kids to find out where the kids are at and their perspective (Student voice data)
v. Contact with other teachers using inquiry. E.g. Cara Randall at Lynmore.
vi. Reflect on responses.
vii. Research: Consider how SOLO might be used by students to engage more deeply in inquiry and
motivate towards “extended abstract” outcomes
Action 3: Developing useful resource i. Begin a wiki - set it up for the project's duration. See example 1
ii. Hyperlink to valuable readings.
iii. Look at the engaged learners as an example
iv. Develop further links with teachers using Inquiry at Yr 5/6 level.
v. Continue research – on inquiry strategies and ICTs to support this.
vi. Arrange class visit.
vii. Previsit brainstorm – What is it I expect to see? What will the teacher be doing?
What will students be doing? How will ICTs be employed?
Term 2 Week 9 – 11 Action 4: Research i. Attend Professional Learning Day at Bethlehem College June 19 to hear Kath Murdoch.
ii. Continue Research / Networking. Consider mini inquiries (half hour), learning / web quests
iii. Prepare resources to support implementation and scaffold student learning.
iv. List ways ICTS can be used to support inquiry e,.g Blogs as a reflection tool
v. Photograph students at work.
vi. Inform students of my action inquiry development.
Action 5: Formulate The Plan i. Develop a plan of action for the classroom and in particular the focus group based on my research
ii. Consider student interest, and ways to empower them in their learning. How will this inquiry make
a difference to them and others around them. Why would they want to learn this? Why should they
care? What aspect link to what students enjoy?
iii. Set up the “Hook” to motivate student interest. E..g a problem.
iv. Prepare resources, order National Library resources (books, Cds, Websites)
v. Record student comments. / Relfect
Term 3 Action 6: Implementation: i. Prepare room
ii. Instigate the plan – specific focus on the identified group’s needs.
Term 3 Week 10 Further Actions: i. Re-assess and collect data during and at the end of the inquiry
ii. Evaluate Process and Outcomes: What worked well? What would I do differently? What Next?
iii. Spiral on up - what difference will this make for me as a teacher. What will I take forward into 2011,
How has this altered the underpinnings to my practice (pedgagogy)
